Intel officially announces the Granite Rapids-D Xeon processor, with plans to officially launch it next year

At MWC 2024, Intel announced the upcoming release of Granite Rapids-D Xeon processor, targeting telecommunications and other sectors, slated for next year.

Apart from telecommunications, Intel Xeon D processors find extensive use in edge computing applications. The D-1800/2800 series, launched late last year, features the “Ice Lake-D Refresh” architecture, offering up to 10/22 cores respectively.

Intel has announced that the Granite Rapids-D Xeon processor, incorporating the latest generation P-core, is currently undergoing chip sampling. It is anticipated to reduce costs and power consumption for vRAN applications. The upcoming processor will feature enhanced Intel AVX for vRAN technology, along with integrated technologies like Intel vRAN Boost acceleration. These advancements are poised to significantly enhance both performance and energy efficiency.

In addition, according to various press releases, Samsung and Ericsson respectively completed the first call of vRAN based on Granite Rapids-D processors in the laboratory.

Sources Yuuki AnS have revealed that the Granite Rapids-D Xeon processor will include two variants: one will use a Granite Rapids-LCC computing chip paired with one I/O chip, supporting 4-channel memory; Another approach will use Granite Rapids HCC computing chips with 2 I/O chips, supporting 8-channel memory.
